Happy Vesak Day !  –  Tips on How to Stay Emotionally and Mentally Healthy

We wish everyone happiness, peace and prosperity.

The celebration reminds us of Buddha’s teachings and the tradition on Vesak, to purify ourselves of negativities such as greed, material attachment, impure thoughts, and to practice morality and loving kindness.

A study have found clear and compelling evidence that happy people tend to live longer and experience better health than their unhappy peers.

While happiness might not by itself a cure to diseases, the evidence that positive emotions and enjoyment of life contribute to better health and a longer lifespan.  Happiness may not be the magic bullet, but the evidence is clear that having a positive and happy outlook in life changes the odds of getting disease or dying young.

 

Take care of what you eat

Eating fresh food that is rich in nutrients helps your body deal with daily stresses. Foods which have Vitamin B-12 and Omega 3 fatty acids keep up the levels of mood-regulating chemicals in the brain.

Exercise regularly

Physical activity is also beneficial for the mind. Exercise boosts energy, reduces stress and mental fatigue. 30 minuses per day and 3 times per week.

Have a regular “me” time

Set time aside for yourself; attend to your own emotional needs, read a book, pamper yourself, or just relax and unwind without having to worry about your daily tasks. And participating in activities that you enjoy helps you stay engaged and happy. It keeps your mind occupied and can also give you an outlet to express your emotions, particularly those that you may find difficult to share with others.
